BirthMatters offers comprehensive online classes for families preparing for a new baby, and continued education for birth professionals. All of our classes are taught with the philosophy of “freedom of choice based on knowledge of alternatives.”
We present current research-based information to empower families and doulas in training to make the best choices, because EVERY BIRTH MATTERS!
Our live education workshops are 100% online via Zoom, allowing aspiring doulas and expecting parents to receive training from anywhere in the world. All you need is a computer, phone or tablet, and a good internet connection.
About your instructor:
Chris Cleary
ICCE, CD(DONA), BDT(DONA), CCE, CBEChris Cleary is a DONA (Doulas of North America), certified doula, and has trained with DONA co-founder Penny Simkin and Kathy McGrath to become a doula trainer. She is also a certified childbirth educator and certified breastfeeding educator. She is currently offering four-day workshops to train professional labor assistants throughout the country.
With more than 30 years of experience as a Doula and childbirth educator, Chris has worked with thousands of families as they welcomed babies into their families as an educator and has worked with somewhere between 1,300 and 1,500 families as their Doula.
Since we have begun offering virtual trainings, she has been thrilled to offer this valuable training to people in 15 different countries. Chris’ goal as a trainer is to train doulas from all walks of life by helping DONA realize their vision:
“a doula for every person who wants one.”
Why am I a doula? Why do I train doulas?
Mission Statement:
My journey as an advocate for better births began when I was an 18-year-old Red Cross volunteer. Since then, I have passionately believed that everyone giving birth deserves a dedicated, knowledgeable, and supportive person by their side to encourage and empower them.
To further this vision, I sought education from the leading organizations in the country and had the immense privilege of learning directly from pioneers like Penny Simkin and Kathy McGrath. My credentials include AdvBDT(DONA), AdvCD(DONA), BMCCE, and CBE.
In my commitment to supporting birthing families, I established a business in Oklahoma, serving the local community with childbirth education, doula services, and support. Over the past 20 years, I’ve had the honor of traveling across the country to train doulas, sharing knowledge and tools to elevate birth experiences.
With the rise of the internet, I’ve been able to extend my reach, focusing on both in-person and online doula training. My goal is to educate as many people as possible on the transformative possibilities of birth. Our bodies are designed for this incredible journey-what’s needed is trust in the process and the right support.
I am especially committed to serving marginalized communities, including BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ populations, who face significant disparities in care.
People of color are dying at an alarming 3 to 4 times the rate of their caucasian counterparts during childbirth.
To address these inequities, I offer discounts to these populations and work tirelessly to provide them with the compassionate, informed care they deserve.
I am dedicated to helping individuals preparing for birth, their partners, and support teams for birth. I value guiding them through the birthing process and navigating them through the post-birth period with confidence and care. Together, we can create a world where every birth is safe, supported, and empowering.
